Guatemala: Dog + Cat Spay, Neuter, & Wellness Clinic

[January 2026] In Guatemala, I was able to directly provide veterinary care through dog and cat spay/neuter and wellness clinics—focused on practical, high-impact medicine that improves animal health and supports communities, while building my skills in field surgery, preventive care, and working where resources (and time) are limited.

What I love about this kind of work is how real it is. We had to be real doctors and work in teams to solve problems in real time. We were thinking about efficiency, safety, pain control, limited supplies, communication barriers, patient flow, recovery, and how to deliver the best care we could with what we had. It’s the kind of medicine that forces you to be sharp, calm, and creative.

And honestly… these are also the trips that change your worldview the most, because it’s never only about the animals because the people are so important too. The stories you hear. The way people live. The way they show love. The way they keep going. That stuff sticks with you.

I’m so grateful to have been able to learn, work hard, and come back better—better clinically, better emotionally, better as the kind of veterinarian I’m trying to become. More coming soon, but for now: thank you for being part of my journey and supporting the projects that keep shaping me.

Shoutout to Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine and Dr. Paul Maza + FARVets for making space for me to come help and learn!!
