Sea of Cortes, Mexico: Pro-Bono Veterinary Care in Remote Villages via Boat
[June 2024] 40+ dog & cat vaccinations, medical exams, and a few spays later, and I’m back in the States from Mexico! From living on a boat to traveling the sea to provide free veterinary care to remote villages, this experience was absolutely life-changing in ways I couldn’t have planned for.
Being with Dr. Sheddy these past few weeks was really one of those life-changing experiences that you really can’t plan for, and I’m incredibly grateful I got to be part of it. We ended up doing SO many vaccination clinics and spays in a number of remote villages and communities in the Sea of Cortes. And when I tell you the people I met were so unique, with such intricate life stories and backgrounds—it genuinely warmed my heart and gave me a whole new perspective on the world.
Also, living on a boat for a few weeks was absolutely insane, but it definitely taught me a lot too. From preparing for an entire week without touching land to having no service for days, it was a learning experience both as a vet and as a person. But the number one lesson I learned was the essence of being at peace with being “still.” I’m always moving at a million miles per hour, and whenever I try to take a break, I feel like my brain is rotting away. But the fact that I was at peace while disconnected, floating at sea, made me realize—it’s not that I can’t slow down, it’s that I need to keep learning more about myself. Needless to say, I can’t wait to share more about this journey, but for now, I just want to say thank you for all the love and support!
Shoutout to Dr. Sheridan & Jim of Vet Tails for allowing me to join them on their adventures around the world. Check out their YouTube Channel & Patreon to donate too :)
